New England Biolabs: Why We Work Here

Mike Pelletier:
New England Biolabs is really unlike any place I've ever seen in my career. Once you've spent some time in the company, it's hard to imagine going anywhere else, quite honestly. It is a very compassionate organization, and it's very true to itself.

Once you walk through the front doors, and you feel the energy of the people and the excitement.

And the community, we really can explore a lot of unanswered questions about the natural world.

We have a complete freedom of how we should go about a problem, and how we should think. And I think, as scientists, this is really important.

The minute I walked into this building, I just felt it, and I've been here for 17 years, and I just feel it more and more every day.

For me, the main motivation to work at NEB was to do work that enables other scientists.

Carine Robichon-Iyer:
I was a postdoc before being permanent employee at NEB, so I was excited about it because I was already using their product in my own research.

Katie Bilotti:
We fund our in-house basic science research.

Thomas C. Evans, Jr.:
We have, on average, about 32 separate research labs, all with their own interests.

We are something in between a biotech company and a research institute.

You can get here and be surrounded by a supportive environment of other scientists and other experts who help you get going right away.

It's informal, yet very professional. People are extremely curious.

Friendly, talented, and I really feel like I belong.

The sense of commitment and community that is here, it's amazing.

Mike Pelletier:
We probably have 40 or 50 different clubs that have been self-initiated by the employees. Jam night, rock climbing, mountain biking.

Gary Taiste:
The running club, or the wine club, or the beer club.

Lana Saleh:
Baking club, cat club, everything.

Nicole Nichols:
If I can tell anybody thinking about NEB the message I have for them is it is real. It is what you think it is. It is what you see. It is genuine. That's what we value, that's what we ensure is true.

Salvatore Russello:
And if they're thinking about NEB versus any company in the world, I really would strive them to think about where they want to be long-term. We really want it to be a place where people can grow within their career.

Lana Saleh:
We believe in what we do every day.
